MY LIFE, MY CHOICE!

Thistle YP is launching a new and exciting event called MY LIFE, MY CHOICE! aimed at 15-20yr olds with additional support needs. The event is a large scale event with Robert S. Gale hosting a panel of young disabled adults who are going to share their lived experiences of moving on from school into adult life and how they have achieved their dreams in a fun and engaging way! Please see flyer attached.

The event is on the 11th of March at Norton Park conference centre (57 Albion Road, Edinburgh, EH7 5QY) from 4.30-7.30pm with a buffet dinner being served at 6pm. There will also be representatives from organisations that will be available for the second half of the evening to give advice and information to the families that attend.

Our hope is that young people with additional support needs will be BOTH inspired by our panel and equipped by the organisation reps.

The event is ticketed through Eventbrite and although free the tickets are limited so if you want to book a place for you & your son/daughter, please click on this link.  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/my-life-my-choice-registration-90924895811?aff=ebdssbeac

Got a young person about to leave school?

Wondering what you can do to help them prepare for the next stage of life as a young adult?

Want to do something that focuses on their interests, strengths and the things they enjoy?

Know they have some skills that need developing but not sure quite how to help them do that?

The ILF Transition Fund for young people with additional support needs (up to the age of 21) could be part of the answer!

This is a pot of money to support young people through this particular transition into young adulthood.

Your young person could receive up to £7,500 for one year from the Fund to try out new activities and experiences that could enhance their independence, build their confidence and help them spend time with other people.

What is involved?

  • You will need to complete an application form - see the link below

  • The plan has to show how your young person will benefit and in what ways e.g. increased confidence etc

  • You will need a quote for the costs e.g. music sessions, support person to do the activity with your young person

Got an idea but want to talk it through?

You can contact the Fund (by phone or using the contact form on the website) to ask some questions about your idea OR you can speak with us at EDG.

Help with a plan?

You might need some time to plan out your idea and a grant is available to do that - a Person Centred Planning Grant - use the same form but you only need to answer a few of the questions.

EDG can help you to develop the plan and provide you with the quote you will need for your application.
