Purpose

The Finance Officer will be expected to provide a hand-on, professional and high quality finance service to EDG staff, CEO and EDG Board of Directors.

The Finance Officer will have responsibility for day to day managing of the accounting including invoicing, payment, payroll and pension.

The Finance Officer will maintain EDG’s SAGE accounting system, including monthly petty cash and Bank account reconciling.

The Finance Officer will liaise with external parties such as auditors, charitable trusts and the bank.

Core Responsibilities

In conjunction with CEO ensure that full financial controls are developed and implemented across the team, with an emphasis on speed and accuracy of processing.

 

Main Tasks

1.    Annual budget setting in conjunction with CEO.

2.    Routine variance analysis in conjunction with CEO and appropriate corrective action as necessary.

3.    Produce EDG Board finance reports.

4.    Undertake detailed monthly balance sheet controls and reconciliations and at least a quarterly full reconciliation.

 

5.    Undertake quarterly and year end returns for Grants and Charitable Trusts.

 

6.    Payroll administrator; act as the primary contact for pension scheme enquiries.

7.    Pay invoices, ensure debtor and creditor balances are regularly reviewed and managed

 

8.    Working with EDG team, develop cash management controls, standard procedures and best practice; ensure that these are in good order.

The post is accountable to the Board of Directors through the Chief Executive who will provide regular supervision and support.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

An experienced, fully qualified accountant who will help to EDG’s financial systems, processes and reporting. Strong technical, communications and problem-solving skills are key to this role along with an ability to manage a one’s own financial tasks in a small charitable organisation.

A strong service-driven customer focus is essential to this role, along with a positive, problem solving approach. Work within a positive team culture.

It is a given that the successful candidate will be comfortable with maintaining day-to-day financial controls and processes.

S/ he will be technically strong and able to contribute to EDG’s ongoing project financial planning for charitable trust applications.

A strong commitment to the values of the organisation is required, along with a desire to make a positive contribution to those values.
