EDG is a voluntary organisation committed to the principles of inclusion and equality.

We work with people who have learning difficulties and their families to:
  • assist people to plan positive changes in their lives
  • support groups to speak out about issues that are important to them
  • provide training and consultancy on person centred planning, inclusion and citizenship to staff, self-advocates, and families

EDG EGM

EDG are having an 'Extraordinary General Meeting' (EGM) on Friday 30th July at 1pm. The meeting will be at McDonald Road Library, just off Leith Walk.

The EGM is because the Directors want to make some changes to the rules of EDG (don't worry - this won't affect the work we do!)

If you would like to come to the meeting, please phone EDG on 0131 476 0522.

You can read more about the meeting by clicking here: EGM notice and resolutions (pdf).

We have an easy read version of the notice here: Easy read EGM notice (pdf)

You can read the memorandum here: Memorandum approved (pdf)

And the articles here: Articles approved (pdf)

You can look at the proposed structure here: Structure diagram (pdf)

Community Circle

EDG have started up a community circle and we would love you to join us! We got the idea from our friend Lois Smidt at Beyond Welfare in Iowa, USA.

We meet monthly and have a meal together, followed by a relaxed meeting where we all sit in a circle. The idea of the meal and the meeting is to help people get to know one another, so all of us are better connected and more able to contribute (as well as all having people to turn to if we need a hand). Have a look at our flyer: Community Circle flyer (pdf)

Our friends at Beyond Welfare have been running their circle for over 13 years now, and you can watch a clip about it at their website: www.beyondwelfare.org

Heather Simmons joins Steve Coulson for October Workshops

EDG are delighted to have Heather Simmons from Perth, Western Australia with us in early October. She and Steve Coulson will be leading 2 unique one-day workshops.

On 1 October they will lead a session on "Gifts, Community and Meaning - what we are learning from the Big Plan in Scotland and Australia". Steve and Heather have been leading Big Plans together and with others since 2004 and are keen to share what they are learning with a wider audience. This will be a good workshop for anyone wanting to do some deeper thinking about the Big Plan but will also serve as a useful  introduction for those newer to the idea. You can read the flyer for the workshop here Big Plan Workshop (pdf)

On 4 October they will lead a workshop called "Power, Support and the Things We Don't Talk About" which will address the challenging issue of why "person centred services" are not always in practice as person centred as they aim to be. This workshop will be of particular interest to those who work hard to directly support people well. You can read a copy of the flyer for the workshop here Power, Support and the Things We Don't Talk About (pdf)
